"An estimated 12,470 U.S. deaths between April 2009 and April 10, 2010 were tied to H1N1, the CDC says.
But the entire notion of predicting flu pandemics is “a challenge,”
Redd said, and with regard to H1N1, there is “persistent uncertainty”
about what will happen to the virus going forward. It’s not clear when
the flu season will really kick in, which virus will predominate, or
whether the elderly will be largely spared from the effects of H1N1, as
they were last time around."
